The Courtfield Water

The Courtfield water is becoming an exclusive fishery for the Wye and USk Foundation.  Tickets can be obtained through their website and online booking office.

The Courtfield fishery is  an excellent all round water ranging from slower deeps at the upper end to steady and faster runs lower down, finishing with the rapid shallows opposite the Courtfield Arms Pub.

Salmon hold well in the water and of recent years several lies have become good potential catches.  During summer and particularly early autumn, Salmon will hold through the Legg Meadow Beat.  Trout can be found to excess of 4lbs and will rise to the Mayfly.  Sea Trout are rare but are caught from time to time.

The Courtfield is renowned for it’s coarse fishing. Barbel have been caught to 14lbs over recent years and the stock of 5-10lb fish is impressive.  Chub are numerous and have been caught to 6lb and reputedly 7lbs.  The Legg Meadow beat is famous for huge Pike.  In 2009 a 48″ Pike was caught, which although rather lean and well below it’s potential weight, demonstrates that 40 pounders almost certainly do inhabit this water.  One local fisherman lays claim to a 42lbs Pike from this premier Pike fishery.  Ashley Meek’s Pike of 36lbs in 2005 is the largest photographed in recent years.
